🦅Chappell of Liberty🦅 Process
I, like many other lesbians around the world, was completely captivated by Chappell Roan's liberty look at Gov Ball. I was so inspired that I decided to draw it and release it as my Fourth of July collection.
I began with rough shapes to figure out the body's positioning. But once I added details, I realized I hated the silhouette.
So, I pivoted. I traced my original drawing to get just the torso, and that started to look good. I switched the line shape from Technical Pen in Procreate to my favorite sketch pencil, Peppermint. This added the edge and texture I was missing.
Next, I brought in color and details, and the vision started to come together. But it needed something else. Enter: a bald eagle. Not just any bald eagle, but one with painted pink claws.
That left side blank space still bothered me. I knew I had to put a flag there, but it couldn't be the American flag. Then it hit me—it had to be the pride flag.
And just like that, my drawing "Chappell of Liberty" was born. You can buy her on my site as t-shirts or poster prints!
